As a Canadian Certified Pedorthist (C Ped (C)) with over 25 years of experience, Kim Coupland combines advanced biomechanical analysis, gait assessment, and footwear expertise to help alleviate pain, improve mobility, and restore healthy movement patterns.

Using a detailed understanding of posture, alignment, and movement, Kim designs custom orthotics and bracing solutions tailored to each individual’s needs. Her approach emphasizes education, proper footwear selection, and long-term strategies for maintaining comfort and balance in daily activities.

  • Whether you're experiencing minor foot discomfort or a more severe issue, a foot orthotic can be beneficial.

It's important to note that a thorough assessment by a footwear and orthotic expert, such as a Canadian Certified Pedorthist, is necessary to determine whether a foot orthotic can help address a patient's foot, leg, or even back problem.

  • Yes, we can definitely fit orthotics into your ski or snowboard boots.

  • To ensure a comprehensive assessment, please bring the following:

    • Shorts – to allow for a clear evaluation of your lower limb movement and gait.

    • Any types of footwear – please bring all shoes or boots you regularly wear or have concerns about. This may include everyday shoes, work boots, sport specific footwear, or any other footwear.

  • Most insurance companies require a doctor’s prescription to approve reimbursement for custom orthotics. You don’t need one to book your assessment, but it’s recommended if you plan to submit a claim.

  • Direct billing for custom orthotics is not available. You’ll receive all the required documentation for your claim, including:

    • A biomechanical assessment report

    • A certified lab form confirming fabrication from raw materials based on your plaster casts

    • A detailed receipt with Kim’s professional designations

    • Your physician’s prescription (provided by you).

During the initial assessment, you will be required to either pay $150.00 or a deposit of $275.00 if you chose to go ahead and get custom orthotics. Upon pick up of the orthotics, another $275.00 will be due (totalling $550.00).

Following the submission of your documentation, your insurance provider should reimburse you for any eligible expenses.

  • Kim partners with one of Canada’s most innovative orthotic laboratories using 3D plastic shell technology. This advanced process produces durable, precise, and lightweight orthotics while significantly reducing plastic waste compared to traditional manufacturing methods. High-performance top cover materials are selected for comfort and longevity.

  • The lifespan of a foot orthotic varies and is influenced by several factors unique to each patient. The materials used to make the orthotic, the structure of the patient's foot, age, physical condition, and current activity level all have an impact.

It is important to note that the lifespan should not be based on when the cover material wears out, but rather on how long it provides the necessary support, correction, and pressure redistribution to the foot. If symptoms reappear, it is recommended that the orthotic be reassessed to determine if modifications or a new device are necessary.

With proper care, custom orthotics typically last 2–3 years, depending on usage, footwear, and activity level. An annual check-up is recommended to ensure ongoing comfort and function.

  • It is generally recommended to return to the practitioner or lab that originally made your orthotics for any adjustments, as they have your original molds and specifications. While Kim can assess and discuss your existing orthotics, in most cases it is more cost-effective and beneficial to start fresh with a new pair tailored specifically to your current needs.

  • Yes. Kim has an on-site mini lab, allowing her to make most adjustments and modifications directly—without the need to ship orthotics back to the manufacturer. This means faster turnaround times and more personalized fine-tuning to ensure your orthotics fit and function optimally.

Having in-clinic adjustment capabilities is an important factor to consider when choosing where to have your orthotics made, as it allows for ongoing care and immediate support if changes are needed.
